Free knitting workshops for National Knitting Week
KNITTING enthusiasts and novices from Somerset who would like to learn how to knit a chain link or loop scarf are invited to a Craft Centre in the county this October (2010).

The Craft Centre at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre at Monkton Heathfield near Taunton is hosting the free knitting workshops during National Knitting Week, which runs from October 10 until 17.

Miranda McPherson, Supervisor at the Craft Centre, explained: “National Knitting Week is an annual week of celebration in October. It was launched by Knitting Magazine in 2005. It is a great opportunity to inspire a new generation of knitters.

“We are hosting six free workshops throughout the week to show people how to knit a chain link scarf using four double pointed needles or a loop scarf using circular needles. People will be able to see an example of each scarf and choose which one they would like to knit.

“We will provide the needles but people will need to bring their own wool. This is a perfect opportunity for people to use all their left over wool. The finished scarf would make a lovely Christmas present for a family member or friend.”

The Craft Centre has a wide range of new yarns including James C Brett, Stylecraft, Bergere de France and Colinette.

The free scarf knitting workshops will be held from 11am until 1pm on Monday, October 11, Tuesday, October 12, Thursday, October 14, Friday, October 15, Saturday, October 16 and Sunday, October 17 at the Craft Centre at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre.

If you wish to book a place for one of the knitting workshops, please call the garden centre or email the Craft Centre via crafts@monkton-elm.co.uk.

The specialist Craft Centre was created to serve the needs of the area’s keen and potential card-makers, scrapbookers, patchworkers, quilters, cross stitchers, canvas embroiderers, knitters and bead crafters.
