Monkton Elm goes green and white for Parkinson's
GREEN-FINGERED folk are being invited to the 2010 Taunton Flower Show this August to visit a Somerset garden centre’s charity show garden.

Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre at Monkton Heathfield has created a green and white garden in aid of Parkinson’s UK for the event, which takes place at Vivary Park in Taunton on August 6 and 7.

Plant Manager of the family-run garden centre, Andrew Pitman said: “The team at the garden centre wanted to create a beautiful garden to help raise money for Parkinson’s UK. We’ve supported the charity before and it is a very worthy cause.

“Show gardens typically feature a large variety of bold colours but this can sometimes be overpowering to the eye. We wanted to strip back our garden and show the stunning effects that can be achieved with even the smallest colour palate.

“We’ll be using lots of muted white and green flora to create a calming space. We don’t want to give away too much yet, but visitors can expect to see an enchanting, tranquil design.”

The show garden will be raising money for Parkinson’s UK through a water feature, where people are invited to make a wish by donating their spare change.

Parkinson’s UK provides information and support for people suffering from Parkinson’s, their families and carers through its nationwide team.

The charity, which has been established for more than 40 years, aims to change attitudes, find a cure and improve life for everyone affected by Parkinson’s.

Andrew added: “Last year, we were delighted to receive a gold medal for our Taunton Flower Show entry and we hope to repeat the feat again in 2010. It is such a prestigious event in the gardening calendar and one we’re proud to be a part of.”

The Taunton Flower Show takes place at Vivary Park in Taunton on Friday, August 6 and Saturday, August 7. On Friday the show opens at 10am for members and 11am for non-members and runs until 7pm. On Saturday public admittance is from 10am until 6pm.

Representatives from Parkinson’s UK will be at Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre’s show garden during the event to chat to visitors about their work.
